The 60s and 70s were a revolutionary era for automobile engineering which saw a lot of convertibles hitting the market. Values of most convertible classic models keep going up and some are pretty hard to come by. Classic cars online auctions are a great place to search when looking to buy classic convertibles. AutoBidMaster runs classic car auctions throughout the year and participating is a fairly easy affair. Let’s look at some of the popular convertibles you can find at classic car auctions.
Lincoln Continental (1961)
The Lincoln Continental has been manufactured off and on since 1939 and the fourth generation, which ran from 1961 to 1969, is a real collector’s gem. It was designed by Elwood Engel, a famous designer from Detroit. It features suicide doors, tilt steering wheel, and a power convertible top. The engine is a 462-cubic-inch V8.
Chevrolet Corvair (1965)
The Chevrolet Corvair is one of the first compact cars from the Big Three and featured an air-cooled, rear-mounted slant-six engine. The second-generation Corvair’s safety record was redeemed by independent studies after having been labeled a ‘one-accident car’ in the book ‘Unsafe At Any Speed’ soon after it came out in 1965.
Triumph Spitfire (1977)
Triumph Spitfires were the MGB’s rival when it came to the title of the best British roadster. The Triumph Spitfire is a lightweight, low cost convertible that was rather underpowered at its debut with a four-cylinder engine that delivered 63 horsepower. Subsequent model years received several design changes and the car remains one of the inexpensive classic cars for which parts are fairly easy to find.
Alfa Romeo Spider (1992)
The Alfa Romeo Spider is one of the most popular Italian classic convertible cars. It acquired instant classic car status thanks to its body style designed by Pininfarina. Throughout its production cycle, it has remained unchanged. One of its distinguishing attributes is the triangular Alfa grille. Models from the 90s are readily available and considerably cheaper than those from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
