Virtually countless cars have graced the automotive market over the years, and more continue to enter the constantly changing landscape. While some nameplates have left the stage for one reason or another, quite a few have withstood the test of time and continue to make waves on the market. You can find most of these cars when you participate in our online auctions featuring repairable cars for sale. Here is a look at five of the longest legacies in the automotive industry.

Honda Accord

The Honda Accord is the successor to the Civic and first hit the market in 1976. It was released smack in the middle of the 1970s oil crisis, which is the reason for its name ‘Accord’ – an effort to promote harmony among people, society, and automobiles. The Accord nameplate has seen life on different car designs on the American market, starting out on a short-lived compact hatchback and then a sedan which has seen numerous revisions over the years. The nameplate is now in its 10th generation.

BMW 3-Series

The BMW 3-Series luxury sports sedan is the successor to the 1972 BMW 2002 tii and first hit the market in 1975. It has embodied everything that BMW holds dear for over four decades. The first generation was a two-door coupe and the design has gone through several revisions over the years. The popular six-cylinder engine debuted on the US market in 1982. The car is now in its 7th generation and you can choose from several trims, including the performance-oriented M3.

Volkswagen Golf

While the Volkswagen Golf MK1 was unveiled in 1974, it went by the name Volkswagen Rabbit until 1985. It is the successor to the legendary Beetle, and first saw life as a 3-door front-engined, front-wheel drive hatchback and not much has changed today. Few cars have impacted motoring the way the Volkswagen Golf has. It is now its 8th generation and has sold over 35 million units over the years.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a series of full-size luxury sedans that debuted in 1972 in the form of the Mercedes-Benz W116. It has had many iterations over the years with each successive release significantly pushing the bar. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has also debuted many of the company’s technological innovations. It is currently in its 7th generation and available in several variations including Maybach and sporty AMG trims.

Honda Civic

The Honda Civic debuted with a 2-door subcompact design in 1972. It is one economy car that has really earned respect from the time it was launched at the height of the oil crisis. The Civic has been redesigned several times over the years and is now in its 11th Generation.
