BMW 750 Li 

Let’s start our list of BMW discontinued models with one really good car. That is the BMW 750 Li. This is a full-size sedan that has been in production until 2015.

The last BMW chassis code that had a 750 Li model was the F01. This generation of the 7-Series is easily one of the most recognizable vehicles on the road. It started the trend of huge kidney grilles in BMWs.

For those who are not into BMWs, the Li stands for long wheelbase gasoline version. The Li has a slightly longer wheelbase in order to add more legroom in the rear compared to the standard model. Making it perfect for those who want to be driven and not to drive.

BMW X3 2.5L

The BMW X3 2.5L was one of the first compact SUVs that BMW started to offer way back in 2003. This model was one of those that started this compact crossover craze that we still have.

The first generation was known under the codename E83. It was based on the 3-Series but with a higher ground clearance and larger tires. As of now, there are a total of four generations of the X3.

Nevertheless, this first-generation X3 2.5L model was the first and the last with a 2.5L engine. The engines that were used in this model were the M54 between 2004 and 2006, and the N52 between 2006 and 2010.

The original M54 engine produced 181 hp @ 6000 RPM and 181 lb-ft of torque @ 3500 RPM. While the newer N52 made 160 kW (215 hp) @ 6500 rpm and 184 lbf⋅ft of torque (250 N⋅m) @ 2750–4250 rpm.

BMW 328i

The last BMW 3 Series chassis code that carried the 328i model was the F30. This was the generation produced between 2011 and 2019. However, the 328i only lasted up until 2015 when it was discontinued for good.

And the 335i used an inline-6 turbo engine. This approach makes the 335i extremely popular among tuners because the DNA of the 3-Series is the inline-6.

The powertrain used in this model was the 3.0L N55. This engine is extremely reliable and if you maintain it well, it will last forever.

BMW i8

Let’s add some bonus models to our list and the first bonus model is the BMW i8. The i8 was BMW’s first attempt to create an eco-friendly vehicle that will run on gas and electric power.

The i8 was produced between 2014 and 2020. In total, there were more than 20,000 units sold across its short lifespan.

The i8 implemented a very clever approach. It was one of the first models to use a proper hybrid setup. The model combined a 1.5L inline-3 engine with an electric motor and an 11.6 kWh battery pack.

Together this powertrain produced up to 369 hp combined and had a good acceleration from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds. . But its power was not its highlight, the main highlight of this model was the efficiency. Achieving 91 mpg in gas equivalent. We can say that it was crazy efficient.

The i8 sadly, did not get the same appreciation as other BMW models. The model was really good but there was no market for this vehicle. BMW buyers opted for more typical BMW models.

BMW learned a lot from this and they changed their approach. Instead of offering standalone EV models, they started to release EV or plug-in hybrid versions of the standard models. So, the shift from one to the other is not such a shock for BMW owners.

BMW Alpina B7

Let’s add a model that is very popular among the BMW die-hards. This is the Alpina B7.

Alpina is a German brand that adds the Alpina treatment to various BMW models, including the BMW 7-Series.

They did so for many decades and unfortunately in recent times, we heard the news that the Alpina B7 is going away. It will no longer be offered by Alpina.

Something that is sad to hear because this model created a whole legacy for Alpina.

The last 7-series generation that Alpina worked on was the G12 model and was produced up until 2022 when Alpina stopped making it.

This model was equipped with a 4.4L turbocharged V8 engine that produced up to 600 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. Making it a real powerhouse. The model was paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission that delivers extremely smooth shifts.

From a looks perspective, the B7 uses an Alpina body kit with custom front and rear bumpers. In addition to this, you also have the typical Alpina rims that are the stamp of this brand.

Maybe in the future Alpina will bring back the B7 but only time will tell what will happen.

BMW Z8

One legendary BMW that we had to add to our list is definitely the BMW Z8. The Z8 is a model that is considered a true collectible since only fewer that 6,000 of these were made during its production span between 1999 and 2006.

From a looks perspective, the Z8 is a homage to the legendary BMW 507 from the 1950s.

It is powered by a powerful 4.9L V8. The engine uses the codename S62. The S means that this is a high-performance engine.

It produces 395 hp and 360 lb-ft of torque. All this power propels this model from 0 to 60 in only 4.7 seconds and has a limited top speed of 250 km/h.

This model is easily one of the most sought-after BMWs of all time. We really hope that in the future years, BMW will bring it back once again.

When did BMW stop making 328i?

BMW stopped making the 328i in 2015. This was the last model year when we saw a 328i model. Since then, BMW standardized the 330i and the 340i models. The 328i was probably removed because of its name, it was too close to the 330i and buyers simply opted for the 330i instead of the 328i.

When did BMW stop making the 335i?

The BMW 335i was removed from the lineup the same year as the 328i, specifically in 2015. With the F30 being the last generation using the 335i badge. This was the case because BMW decided to use the 320, 330, and 340 numbers instead of the numbers in between. So,  the 335i became the 340, and the 328i became the 330i.

When did BMW stop making the i8?

The BMW i8 is definitely one of the models that did not have the luck to become successful and sell in high numbers. The i8 delivered in many aspects, including efficiency, power, etc. But the market was not there.
